Advancing Commercialization of Nanocellulose:
Critical Challenges Workshop
Drying and Compatibilization

May 7-8, 2019
Patriots Plaza III · 355 E Street, SW · Washington, DC
Hosted by the Alliance for Pulp & Paper Technology Innovation
in collaboration with the U.S.D.A. Forest Service and National Nanotechnology Coordinating Office in support of the Sustainable Nanomanufacturing Signature Initiative
This workshop will bring together and grow a US community of scientists to advance two critical, high-impact R&D needs for commercialization of nanocellulose:  drying and compatibilization
This two-day event exploring R&D needed for nanocellulose commercialization will:
  • Frame the Critical Issues – Present summaries on two state-of-the-art literature reviews (commissioned by APPTI) that assess current understanding of drying and dewatering and compatibilization for use in polymers.
  • Define and Prioritize – Conduct breakout sessions to define and prioritize research.
  • Highlight the Potential – Present the benefits of nanocellulose in the bioeconomy, global commercialization activities, end-user needs and challenges, and commercial innovation needs.
  • Build a Community – Elevate research efforts by connecting scientists and fostering new collaborations.  Activities will include:
    • Rapid-fire short talks (3 slides/5 minutes) by participants from the US research community, developers, and producers to share their capabilities and expertise in the field.  The Rapid-Fire Session is full. No additional presenters can be accommodated.
    • Networking opportunities to build and develop relationships

This event builds on two seminal workshops hosted by USDA, NNI and APPTI. View those proceedings by utilizing the links below:
