APPTI Workshop:
Improving Test Methods and Performance Models for Containerboard and Converted Packaging

June 25-26, 2019
Forest Products Laboratory · One Gifford Pinchot Drive · Madison, WI 53726

Hosted by the Alliance for Pulp & Paper Technology Innovation
in collaboration with the U.S.D.A. Forest Service
This workshop will bring together board and packaging producers, testing equipment suppliers and scientists to discuss some of the common problems with today’s board and packaging test methods, to define research gaps and provide the foundation for work to improve testing and performance.
Workshop Overview

This two-day event exploring R&D needed in corrugated packaging will:
  • Frame the Critical Issues
    • Present a summary of accepted and potential test methods and models for containerboard and converted package performance that will identify strengths and concerns along with technology gaps. The summary will be based on an extensive review of this field by John Considine and others described in more detail below.
    • Discuss state-of-the-art methods and needed improvements in testing and performance prediction with experts in the field.
  • Define and Prioritize – Conduct breakout sessions to define and prioritize research needs.
  • Build a Community – Improve research efforts by connecting industry and materials scientists to foster new collaborations.
